UPMC McKeesport is in the valley of the historic Monongahela River -- the Mon Valley. Founded in 1894, UPMC McKeesport is a nonprofit acute care community hospital that serves the 19,115, residents of McKeesport and the surrounding area. The hospital offers 231 beds for acute care patients and 56 beds for patients who need skilled nursing care. Over the years UPMC McKeesport has had significant success in receiving national recognition for its quality initiatives and excellent outcomes. These awards include The John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award, the Solucient 100 Top Hospital Awards, and The Sodexho Community Spirit Award. Also in both 2006 and 2007, UPMC McKeesport received a national award for clinical excellence placing UPMC McKeesport in the top five percent of hospitals in the nation. In addition, the hospital was awarded continued accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO); and due to exceptional outcomes, we have been recognized as a leader in Quality Check(a comprehensive guide to hospital performance measure results). UPMC McKeesport is an accredited Stage Six institution in Electronic Health Record utilization, one of 152 hospitals worldwide to achieve this level of implementation as recognized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Widely recognized for its commitment to quality care, UPMC McKeesport is ranked #4 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for compliance with all core quality benchmarks.

The hospital's merger with UPMC in April 1998 provides access to UPMC's state-of-the-art diagnostic and interventional capabilities and its extensive roster of specialists.

The UPMC McKeesport Family Medicine Residency Program has proudly served the Mon Valley community for more than 50 years. Rooted in a tradition of community-based training, our program remains dedicated to caring for the diverse patients and families of McKeesport and the surrounding region

Today, residents receive their primary inpatient training at UPMC East, a modern community hospital located in nearby Monroeville. There, residents work closely with Family Medicine faculty, specialists, and interdisciplinary care teams while managing a broad range of inpatient medical conditions in a supportive learning environment.

While our inpatient service is based at UPMC East, UPMC McKeesport remains an important part of our program's history, identity, and mission. Through our Family Health Center, community outreach efforts, and clinical experiences throughout the region, residents continue to care for patients from McKeesport, the Mon Valley, and surrounding communities.
