Barbara Nightingale, MD is ecstatic to be a part of the UPMC McKeesport Family Medicine Residency. She first moved to Pittsburgh from Rhode Island to attend Carnegie Mellon University for an undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. She briefly worked at the National Institute on Drug Abuse in Baltimore before returning to the area to complete a Master’s in Biology at Duquesne University. She attended medical school in Philadelphia at Drexel University College of Medicine. After graduating from the UPMC-McKeesport family medicine and psychiatry residency program, she was excited to join the faculty as both a psychiatrist and family physician in July 2015.
Dr. Nightingale is the Medical Director of Latterman Family Health Center and Associate Program Director for the UPMC Psychiatry and Family Medicine Residency Program. She sees patients for medical and psychiatric problems at Latterman and functions as a collocated primary care provider at the Latterman satellite location at Mon Yough Community Services (a nearby community mental health center).
She immensely enjoys providing compassionate care to the medically and psychiatrically underserved population of McKeesport and adapting to the ever-changing needs of patients. Her primary interests are integration of behavioral health care and primary care and graduate medical education. Approaching health behavior change in a collaborative, patient-empowering manner is integral to the care she provides to patients and strives to teach students and residents. When she is not working, she loves exercising, gardening, and spending time with her family.
